Deux termes, que tout semble opposer, mais qui pourtant ne vont pas l’un sans l’autre, car il y a de la beauté dans l’utile et la beauté est plus qu’utile.
Créer trois bijoux où se mêlent beauté et utilité, voilà la commande du projet que je vais vous présenter. Ou comment marier ces deux mots en union diamantée ?
Create three pieces of jewelry where two visions intertwine: Beauty, which, like every word, represents everything and its opposite. And Utility, a word that seems to rhyme only with effective and beneficial. Two terms that seem to be at odds with each other, but which nonetheless cannot exist without one another, for there is beauty in utility, and beauty is more than useful.
Creating three pieces of jewelry that blend beauty and utility—that is the task of the project I am about to present to you. Or how to unite these two words in a diamond-like union?
Dans son sens premier, le bijou est utile car il n’existerait pas s’il ne servait à rien. Le bijou est un symbole, il protège, garde, embellit. Mais pour transcender les frontières entre beauté et utilité, je me suis laissé guider par un mythe. Dans lequel nous trouvons ce qui fait de nous une espèce pas comme les autres. Dépasser cette simple idée de beauté et d’utilité par quelque chose de plus grand et qui nous touche tous.
In its original sense, jewelry is useful because it would not exist if it served no purpose. Jewelry is a symbol; it protects, preserves, and adorns. But to transcend the boundaries between beauty and utility, I allowed myself to be guided by a myth. In it, we find what makes us a species unlike any other. To go beyond this simple notion of beauty and utility for something greater, something that touches us all.
Le mythe prométhéen. En lui seul réside notre humanité. Par la créativité et surtout la technique qui sont au cœur de notre métier. Par le feu de la connaissance, nous nous distinguons des autres espèces. C’est notre capacité à utiliser la technique pour façonner notre environnement, améliorer nos conditions de vie et arriver jusqu’à un monde où l’on crée des petits objets précieux que l’on porte à corps qui nous définissent en tant qu’homme.
Voilà notre différence, si certains nous appellent homo sapiens, ce que nous sommes vraiment ce sont des homo faber. Des hommes qui fabriquent. Et ne cessent d’évoluer.
Alors voilà où j’ai envisagé le bijou utilitaire. Vers ce mythe, vers cet esprit d’évolution.
The Promethean myth. In it alone resides our humanity. Through creativity and, above all, the technique that lies at the heart of our craft. Through the fire of knowledge, we distinguish ourselves from other species. It is our ability to use technique to shape our environment, improve our living conditions, and create small precious objects that we wear on our bodies that defines us as human beings.
This is our difference—if some call us Homo sapiens, what we truly are is Homo faber. Humans who create. And who continuously evolve.
So this is where I envisioned the utilitarian jewelry—toward this myth, toward this spirit of evolution.
Aujourd’hui tout va tellement vite, sans même le savoir nous avons basculé dans un autre paradigme. La symbiose entre l’homme et la machine s’intensifie, et pourquoi pas celle entre la beauté et l’utilité aussi. Créer ces trois bijoux. Un défi qui résidait dans la conception d’accessoires évidemment fonctionnels et esthétiquement attrayants, mais surtout témoins d'une nouvelle ère où la beauté et l'utilité s'unissent dans une harmonie transhumaniste. Des bijoux qui nous ouvrent à nous-même et au monde.
Nous avons tous en nous une soif de connaissance qui nous pousse à explorer, dépasser nos limites par la technologie. Et bien, c’est cet esprit qui définit le transhumanisme et c’est cet esprit qui m’a guidé pour ce projet transverse.
Selon Gilbert Hottois, philosophe belge, le désir de transhumanisation est aussi ancien que l’humanité. Il est irrépressible, l’étouffer reviendrait à étouffer l’humanité elle-même. Car vouloir dépasser notre condition est logique, cela va dans la continuité de notre évolution. Nous voulons tous dépasser cette nature qui nous réduisait à être faibles. Chercher des solutions fait partie de nous.
Car l’homme est un héros conquérant. Un demi-dieu vainqueur de la nature grâce à son intelligence prométhéenne. Né sans cuir, sans sabots ni fourrure, il s’est vêtu seul.
Today, everything moves so quickly that without even realizing it, we have shifted into a new paradigm. The symbiosis between humans and machines is intensifying, and why not also the one between beauty and utility? Creating these three pieces of jewelry was a challenge that lay in designing accessories that are obviously functional and aesthetically pleasing, but above all, serve as witnesses to a new era where beauty and utility unite in transhumanist harmony. Jewelry that opens us up to ourselves and to the world.
We all have within us a thirst for knowledge that drives us to explore, to push beyond our limits through technology. And it is this spirit that defines transhumanism and that guided me in this interdisciplinary project.
According to Belgian philosopher Gilbert Hottois, the desire for transhumanization is as old as humanity itself. It is irrepressible; to stifle it would be to stifle humanity itself. For wanting to surpass our condition is logical; it is a continuation of our evolution. We all seek to overcome the nature that once reduced us to being weak. Finding solutions is part of who we are.
For man is a conquering hero—a demigod who triumphs over nature through his Promethean intelligence. Born without hide, hooves, or fur, he clothed himself.
Une philosophie qui, pour moi, prend tout son sens avec le bijou. Ce petit objet fruit de milliers d’années de techniques, d’apprentissage, de transmission. Le bijou, pour moi, est la quintessence de notre humanité. Il représente tout ce que nous sommes. Par sa beauté, mais surtout tout ce qu’il nécessite pour exister, de la mine au porté. C’est l’homme qui a tout créé.
Dans le bijou d’aujourd’hui, de nouvelles techniques apparaissent et si les machines commencent à participer à la création joaillière, elles ne sont que des outils et le resteront.
A philosophy that, for me, finds its full meaning in jewelry. This small object, the result of thousands of years of techniques, learning, and transmission. Jewelry, to me, is the quintessence of our humanity. It represents everything we are—not only through its beauty but especially through everything required for it to exist, from the mine to the wearer. It is humanity that has created it all.
In today's jewelry, new techniques are emerging, and while machines are beginning to take part in jewelry creation, they are merely tools and will remain so.

Je suis donc parti de l’individu pour l’ouvrir au monde et lui faire rencontrer un second soi.
Partir de l’individu, référence centrale du transhumanisme. Siège de la conscience et de l’identité personnelle. Les individus peuvent s’améliorer, s’augmenter en portant évidemment des bijoux qui ont depuis toujours servi à nous prolonger. Prolonger notre corps, notre beauté. La beauté caractérise notre individualité. En particulier celle de notre visage, siège de toute expression, chef-d’œuvre hérité de nos ancêtres. Mais beauté si fragile qu’il nous faut la protéger.

Starting with the individual, the central reference of transhumanism—the seat of consciousness and personal identity. Individuals can improve and enhance themselves, naturally by wearing jewelry, which has always served to extend us—to extend our bodies, our beauty. Beauty characterizes our individuality, especially that of our face, the seat of all expression, a masterpiece inherited from our ancestors. But beauty is so fragile that it must be protected.
Ainsi m’est venue l’idée, d’une seconde peau. Ornée de ce qu’il y a de beau. Un deuxième visage de diamants pour protéger ce qu’il y a de plus précieux. Porter une seconde peau de diamants qui nous protégerait des rayons UV, des lumières bleues, et de la pollution. En portant un masque moulé unique, propre à chacun. Plus besoin de se maquiller ou de mettre de la crème solaire. Vous voilà maquillé de diamants et protégé du vieillissement. Un bijou pour nous aider à vieillir tout en nous protégeant.
Pour concevoir ce premier bijou, des matériaux tombaient sous le sens : le titane car c’est le seul métal qui peut être traité pour obtenir des propriétés de filtrage UV. Un serti de diamants sur une base aérienne pour laisser la peau respirer. Y ajouter certains polymères transparents, qui complètent le filtrage des rayons UV tout en restant minces et légers. Et terminer par un nano-filtre extrêmement petit sous la forme d’une feuille thermoformée, conçue pour capturer les particules à l'échelle nanométrique.
Thus came the idea of a second skin, adorned with beauty. A second face made of diamonds to protect what is most precious. Wearing a second skin of diamonds that would shield us from UV rays, blue light, and pollution. By wearing a uniquely molded mask, custom-made for each person, there would be no need for makeup or sunscreen. You would be adorned with diamonds and protected from aging—a piece of jewelry to help us age while keeping us safe.
To design this first piece of jewelry, certain materials were an obvious choice: titanium, as it is the only metal that can be treated to have UV filtering properties. A diamond setting on an airy base to let the skin breathe. Adding certain transparent polymers that complete the UV filtration while remaining thin and lightweight. And finishing with an extremely small nano-filter in the form of a thermoformed sheet, designed to capture nanoparticles.

Je suis parti de ce que je pour l'ouvrir au monde
L’ouvrir au monde par ce qui caractérise l’homme. La parole, elle nous a permis de créer de merveilleuses sociétés mais nous sommes toujours limités à la tour de Babel. Aujourd’hui, sans parler la même langue, il est compliqué de communiquer avec celui qui vient d’une terre lointaine. Alors j’ai imaginé un collier qui permettrait un monde sans frontières. Un monde, où chacun pourrait comprendre les nuances des pensées de l’autre grâce à un collier traducteur. Une seconde voix. Deux micros, deux haut-parleurs et une petite intelligence artificielle, voilà ce qui nous manque pour être ouvert au monde entier.
I started with what I have to open it up to the world.
To open it up to the world through what characterizes humanity. Speech has allowed us to create wonderful societies, yet we are still confined to the Tower of Babel. Today, without speaking the same language, it is challenging to communicate with someone from a distant land. So, I envisioned a necklace that would enable a world without borders. A world where everyone could understand the nuances of each other's thoughts through a translating necklace. A second voice. Two microphones, two speakers, and a small artificial intelligence—this is what we need to be open to the entire world.
Un collier, qui grâce à une technologie inspirée des traducteurs Vasco qui instantanément traduisent et restitue oralement un langage en un autre. Un collier inspiré de ce mythe de la tour de Babel qui prend naissance sur la grande ziggurat de Babylone car avec ce collier l’humanité serait à nouveau liée.
A necklace, which, thanks to technology inspired by Vasco translators that instantly translate and orally convey one language into another. Un bijou de technologie facilement réalisable puisqu’il ne nécessiterait qu’une petite intelligence artificielle sous la forme d’une puce, une puce liée à deux haut-parleurs, l’un au cœur du collier, sur les cordes vocales imitant la voix de la personne et lui permettant de parler une autre langue, et le second entourant les oreilles de cette dernière pour lui faire comprendre une autre langue. Une forme ergonomique pour que ces petites enceintes et micros, grâce à leur orientation, émettent un son audible seulement par celui qui le porte et celui qui l’écoute.
Partir de cet individu qui par le bijou, s’est ouvert au monde, pour lui présenter un nouveau champ des possibles. Partir de cet individu pour lui faire rencontrer un second soi.
A piece of technology easily achievable since it would only require a small artificial intelligence in the form of a chip, connected to two speakers. One speaker, located at the heart of the necklace, mimics the person's voice and enables them to speak another language, while the second speaker surrounds the listener's ears to help them understand a different language. An ergonomic design ensures that these small speakers and microphones, thanks to their orientation, emit sound audible only to the wearer and the listener.
Starting with this individual who, through the jewelry, has opened up to the world, to present them with a new realm of possibilities. Starting with this individual to introduce them to a second self.
Pour mon dernier bijou, je me suis inspiré d'une révolution technologique. Elle incarne l'apogée de l'innovation, en avance sur nous de plusieurs années. Un bijou technologique où fusionnent : télévision, ordinateur et téléphone, pour nous libérer du monde matériel et nous ouvrir à l'immateriel. L’Apple Vision Pro, ce n’est pas un simple casque, mais une porte vers un autre monde d'une qualité telle qu'on oublie sa nature artificielle.
For my final piece of jewelry, I drew inspiration from a technological revolution. It represents the pinnacle of innovation, several years ahead of us. A technological piece of jewelry where television, computer, and phone merge, freeing us from the material world and opening us up to the immaterial. The Apple Vision Pro is not just a headset; it is a gateway to another world, with such quality that one forgets its artificial nature.
Un second cerveau où voyager, partager des moments, travailler deviennent des expériences sans obstacle. Une révolution que j’ai choisie de rendre bijou. La métamorphoser pour allier cette utilité révolutionnaire à une beauté harmonieuse.
Car si cette technologie est merveilleuse, elle peut être encore plus esthétique et devenir bijou. Gravé à la joaillerie, un monde où sa taille, et sa forme volumineuse n’ont pas lieu d’être car le bijou devient œuvre d’art, pièce unique sur mesure.

For while this technology is amazing, it can be even more aesthetically pleasing and become a piece of jewelry. Engraved into the realm of fine jewelry, a world where its size and bulky form are unnecessary because the jewelry becomes a work of art, a one-of-a-kind custom piece.
J’ai gardé les mêmes composants, les mêmes matériaux mais j’ai changé leur apparence. En les enrichissant de nos savoir-faire joailliers. Utiliser ces écrans, d'une qualité inégalée, chaque pixel faisant le diamètre d'une cellule sanguine. Garder cette technologie interne si mystérieuse et révolutionnaire, en supprimant cependant ce qui pour moi ne fait pas sens. L’écran technique à l'extérieur, qui permet aux autres de voir nos yeux, faisant semblant de briser une barrière entre le virtuel et le réel. Car il est hypocrite de faire croire que ce casque n’isole pas. Justement, pourquoi n’aurions-nous pas besoin de nous isoler pour nous ouvrir au monde ? Combien de fois avons-nous regardé un film ou passé du temps sur notre téléphone seul ? Grâce à ce bijou, se déconnecter, créer une bulle. Tout devient possible avec ce bijou, capable de comprendre notre environnement tout en étant contrôlé par nos yeux, notre voix et nos gestes. Un bijou, ancré dans la réalité, qui ouvre son utilisateur sur lui-même et sur le monde, en alliant symbolique beauté et utilité.
I kept the same components and materials but changed their appearance, enriching them with our jewelry craftsmanship. Using these screens, of unparalleled quality, with each pixel the size of a blood cell. Retaining this mysterious and revolutionary internal technology, while removing what I find nonsensical. The technical screen on the outside, which allows others to see our eyes, pretending to bridge the gap between the virtual and the real. For it is hypocritical to pretend that this headset does not isolate us. Indeed, why should we not need to isolate ourselves in order to open up to the world? How many times have we watched a movie or spent time alone on our phones? With this piece of jewelry, disconnecting, creating a bubble becomes possible.
